Note: Aiolis, Elaia, known as “place of olives,” was a common name for ancient cities in the region. Elaia served as a significant sanctuary dedicated to Apollo. It prospered during the 3rd and 2nd centuries B.C. under the Attalid dynasty from nearby Pergamon. Later, it fell under Seleucid control but was reclaimed by Attalus I of Pergamon in 218 B.C.
