Note:  Aeolis, an ancient region in western Anatolia (modern-day Turkey), was home to several important cities, including Kyme. Located on the coast, Kyme was a prominent Greek city-state known for its maritime trade and cultural significance. The coins minted in Kyme often reflected the city’s identity and values. This eagle symbolizes strength, freedom, and power, reflecting the city’s identity and values. Eagles were frequently used as symbols of various Greek city-states, and in the case of Kyme, it likely represented the city’s pride and connection to the natural world. The incuse square may have served several purposes. Firstly, it provided a method of authentication, as the intricate design would have been difficult for counterfeiters to replicate. Secondly, it helped to stabilize the flan during the striking process, ensuring a more consistent and uniform coin.
