Note: Arcadius was the Eastern Roman Emperor from AD 395 until his death in AD 408. He was the eldest son of Theodosius I and the brother of Honorius, who ruled the Western Roman Empire. Arcadius’s reign was marked by internal struggles and external threats, including invasions by barbarian tribes and conflicts with the Sassanid Empire. The Nummus of Arcadius serves as a representation of the late Roman coinage system and the imagery used to convey imperial authority and military strength during this period. The depiction of Arcadius on the obverse emphasizes his imperial status and divine favor, while the reverse motif of the emperor on horseback underscores his role as a military leader defending the glory of Rome.
