Note: Claudius II Gothicus was a Roman emperor who ruled from AD 268 to 270 during a tumultuous period in the Roman Empire known as the Crisis of the Third Century. His reign is notable for his military successes, particularly his victory against the Goths, which earned him the title “Gothicus.” Claudius governed the provinces of the Roman Empire, striving to restore stability after a period of significant internal and external threats. The obverse features a radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Claudius II Gothicus facing right. The radiate crown, resembling the rays of the sun, signifies divine favor and the emperor’s semi-divine status. The drapery and cuirass highlight his role as a military leader.Ā  The reverse shows Aequitas standing to the left, holding scales in one hand and a cornucopia in the other. The scales symbolize justice and the balanced distribution of resources, while the cornucopia represents abundance and prosperity.
