Note: Claudius II Gothicus was a Roman emperor who ruled from 268 to 270 AD. He is best known for his military successes, particularly his victory over the Goths at the Battle of Naissus, which earned him the title “Gothicus.” His brief reign was marked by efforts to stabilize the empire during the Crisis of the Third Century, a period of severe internal and external pressures on the Roman state.Ā  The obverse features a radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Claudius II facing right, seen from behind. The radiate crown symbolizes his association with the sun god Sol and his status as the emperor. The depiction of his military attire emphasizes his role as a warrior emperor, essential during the turbulent times of his reign. The reverse shows the goddess Isis standing front, with her head turned to the left. She holds a sistrum in her right hand and a situla in her left. Isis, an Egyptian goddess, was often associated with protection and healing, making her a fitting symbol for the “Health of the Emperor.” The sistrum, a musical instrument, and the situla, a ritual vessel, further emphasize her role in ensuring divine favor and protection for the emperor.
