Note: Diocletian was a Roman Emperor who ruled from AD 284 to 305. His reign was pivotal in the reorganization of the Roman Empire, marking the beginning of the Tetrarchy. Diocletian’s rule aimed to stabilize the empire, which was facing severe internal strife and external threats. He divided the empire into Eastern and Western halves, each governed by an Augustus and a Caesar, to improve administrative efficiency and military response.Ā  The obverse features a radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Diocletian facing right. The radiate crown and cuirass emphasize his divine favor and military authority, reflecting the era’s focus on imperial legitimacy and strength.Ā  The reverse shows Jupiter standing right, holding a globe and sceptre, facing Hercules who stands left, holding Victory on a globe, a club, and a lionskin. This imagery emphasizes the themes of divine and heroic support. Jupiter represents the overarching divine authority, while Hercules embodies strength and valor. The depiction of Hercules with Victory and the club further reinforces the themes of triumph and power.
