Note: Galerius Maximianus was a Roman emperor who ruled from AD 305 to 311. He played a crucial role during the Tetrarchy, a system of governance established by Diocletian to stabilize and manage the vast Roman Empire. As Caesar and later Augustus, Galerius controlled the eastern provinces and was involved in significant military campaigns, including conflicts against the Sassanid Persians and internal revolts. The Follis of Galerius Maximianus is a notable artifact from the Tetrarchic period of the Roman Empire. The obverse, with its detailed portrait of the emperor, underscores his authority and divine favor. The reverse, depicting Genius with a patera and cornucopiae, conveys the themes of prosperity and protection, reflecting the emperor’s role in ensuring the stability and welfare of the empire. This coin not only facilitated economic transactions but also served as a powerful tool of imperial propaganda, aimed at reinforcing Galerius’ legitimacy and promoting the benefits of his rule.
