Note: Galerius was a Roman Emperor who ruled from AD 305 to 311 as one of the Tetrarchs under the system established by Diocletian. Before becoming Augustus, he served as Caesar from AD 293. His reign was part of the larger Tetrarchic system designed to stabilize and govern the vast Roman Empire through a division of power. Galerius was known for his military campaigns and his role in the persecution of Christians, which marked a tumultuous period in Roman history.Ā  The obverse features a radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Galerius facing right. The radiate crown signifies his role as a divine ruler, while the cuirass indicates his military authority. The combination of these elements underscores Galerius’ dual role as both a military leader and an emperor favored by the gods.Ā  The reverse shows Galerius standing to the right, holding a parazonium (a type of ceremonial dagger) and receiving Victory on a globe from Jupiter, who stands to the left, holding a sceptre. The depiction of Jupiter with Victory emphasizes divine support and the emperorā€™s role in securing victories and stability for the empire. The presence of the parazonium signifies Galerius’ readiness and authority in military matters.
