Note: Gallienus was a Roman emperor who co-ruled with his father Valerian from AD 253 to 260 and continued to rule alone until AD 268. His reign was marked by significant challenges, including internal rebellions, external invasions, and the capture of his father by the Persians, leading to a period known as the Crisis of the Third Century. The obverse, with Gallienus’ radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust, emphasizes his divine favor and leadership. The reverse, depicting Laetitia holding a wreath and anchor, conveys themes of joy, victory, and stability, aiming to project a positive image amidst the Crisis of the Third Century. This coin not only facilitated economic transactions but also served as a powerful tool of imperial propaganda, reinforcing Gallienus’ image as a capable and optimistic ruler striving to restore order and prosperity to the Roman Empire.
