Note: Gallienus was a Roman emperor who ruled from AD 253 to 268, initially alongside his father Valerian and later as sole emperor. His reign was marked by the Crisis of the Third Century, a period of military, political, and economic instability in the Roman Empire. Gallienus focused on internal reforms and strengthening the empire’s defenses against external threats. The obverse, featuring Gallienus’ radiate and cuirassed bust with slight drapery, emphasizes his authority and divine favor. The reverse, depicting Roma seated with Victory and a spear, conveys the themes of Rome’s eternal glory, military strength, and triumph. This coin not only facilitated economic transactions but also served as a powerful tool of imperial propaganda, aimed at legitimizing Gallienus’ rule and reassuring the Roman people during a period of significant instability.
