Note: Gallienus was a Roman emperor who ruled from AD 253 to 268, initially alongside his father Valerian and later as sole emperor. His reign was marked by significant challenges, including the Crisis of the Third Century, which involved external invasions, internal revolts, and economic turmoil.Ā  The obverse, featuring Gallienus’ radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust, emphasizes his authority and divine favor. The reverse, depicting the emperors sacrificing at an altar, conveys themes of piety, unity, and legitimacy. This coin not only facilitated economic transactions but also served as a powerful tool of imperial propaganda, aimed at reinforcing the shared rule and religious devotion of Gallienus and Valerian during a turbulent period in Roman history.
