Note:  Heraclius was a significant Byzantine emperor who rose to power during a time of crisis, leading successful military campaigns against the Sassanian Persians and reclaiming the True Cross. Heraclius faced challenges, including the Arab-Muslim conquests and internal instability.  Martina was Heraclius’ second wife, and Heraclius Constantine was their son. Martina’s influence in court politics was considerable, especially during Heraclius’ declining health. Heraclius Constantine was eventually crowned co-emperor in 613. This coin provides valuable insights into the joint rule of Heraclius, Martina, and Heraclius Constantine and the political and religious context of the Byzantine Empire during the early 7th century AD.
