Note: Justin II ruled the Byzantine Empire from 565 to 578, succeeding his uncle Justinian I. His reign faced significant challenges, including renewed conflicts with the Persians and the Lombard invasion of Italy. Known for his initial attempts at fiscal and administrative reforms, his policies were soon overshadowed by military pressures and economic difficulties. Justin II’s mental health declined in his later years, leading to his wife, Empress Sophia, and General Tiberius effectively managing the empire. His rule marked a turbulent period, struggling to sustain the stability achieved by his predecessor. The depiction of large “Є” (the Greek numeral for five) on the reverse indicate its denomination.
