Note: Demetrios I Poliorketes ruled the Kingdom of Macedon from 306 to 283 BC. He was known for his military campaigns and his attempts to expand his kingdom’s influence. Demetrios gained his nickname “Poliorketes,” meaning “the Besieger,” due to his skill in besieging cities. He famously attempted to conquer Rhodes in 305 BC but was unsuccessful, earning him a reputation for determination and ambition.  Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, warfare, and crafts, is depicted wearing a Corinthian helmet, which symbolizes her role as a warrior goddess. The prow of a galley, a type of ancient ship used in naval warfare, is depicted facing to the right. This imagery symbolizes the naval power and military prowess of the kingdom. This coin reflects the military focus and aspirations of Demetrios I reign. It was used for trade and commerce within the kingdom and served as a symbol of Macedon’s power and authority.
