Obv: Lion at bay on tunny both left
Rev: Quadripartite incuse square
Ref: Cf. Von Fritze I 84 (for prototype); cf. CNG Triton VI 302 (2003) (for official mint); cf. CNG E-Auction 386 (2016), 194 (var); cf. Leu Numismatik Web Auction 7 Lot 386Ā  (2019) (var) Rarity/Choice: Counterfeit of Rare Type, VF (minor plate breaking exposing core otherwise, lovely Hekte)
Note: Counterfeiting began almost immediately after the introduction of the first coinage. The official Phokaia coins were made of solid electrum, a mixture of gold and silver. However, this coin is electroplated with electrum over a base core. It was struck by a criminal counterfeiter in ancient times, with the intention of circulating it as an official prototype.
