Note: Numerian was a Roman Emperor who ruled from AD 283 to 285. He was part of the Tetrarchy system, which was established to stabilize the Roman Empire during a period of crisis. His reign, though relatively short, was marked by attempts to consolidate power and deal with external and internal challenges. Numerian’s rule included various provinces, and he was notably a co-emperor alongside his father Carus and later his brother Carinus. The obverse features a radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Numerian facing right. The radiate crown and cuirass are symbols of divine favor and military authority, emphasizing Numerian’s imperial legitimacy and his role as a powerful leader. The reverse shows Numerian standing right, holding a sceptre and receiving Victory from Jupiter, who stands to the left, holding a sceptre. The imagery emphasizes the support of divine and heroic figures in ensuring the emperor’s success and stability. Victory’s presentation of a globe signifies the triumph and success that Jupiter and the emperor are believed to bring.
