Note: Perge was an ancient city located in Pamphylia, an ancient region in the southern coast of Anatolia, which is part of modern-day Turkey.  Sphinxes were commonly associated with mysteries and guardianship, while Artemis was revered as the goddess of the hunt and wilderness. This coin reflects Perge’s integration of Greek and local Anatolian traditions, as well as its role as a prominent city in the region during the Hellenistic period.
