Note: Antiochos VIII, known as Grypus (meaning “hook-nosed”), was one of the last kings of the Seleucid dynasty, ruling from around 125 to 96 BC. His reign was marked by internal strife and conflicts within the kingdom, as well as struggles against rival claimants to the throne. The Antioch mint, where this coin was struck, was one of the most important mints in the Seleucid Kingdom, located in the city of Antioch on the Orontes (modern Antakya, Turkey). It produced a large quantity of coins used for trade and taxation throughout the empire.
