Note: Demetrius I, also known as Demetrius Soter, was a ruler of the Seleucid Empire who reigned from approximately 162 to 150 BC. He was the son of Seleucus IV and succeeded his brother Antiochus IV on the throne. Demetrius faced numerous challenges during his reign, including internal rebellions and external threats from rival powers such as the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt and the rising power of the Roman Republic. Despite his efforts to stabilize the empire, Demetrius faced a series of setbacks and was eventually overthrown by Alexander Balas. Demetrius’ reign is characterized by political instability and the decline of Seleucid power in the face of growing regional powers. The Antioch Mint, located in the city of Antioch on the Orontes River, was one of the principal mints of the Seleucid Empire and produced a significant portion of its coinage.
