Note: This Decanummium was issued under Tiberius II Constantine (578–582 AD), a former military commander who rose from Caesar to emperor during a time of mounting external pressures. His brief reign was marked by costly wars against the Persians and growing threats in the Balkans, which strained the empire’s finances despite his generosity toward the army and the people of Constantinople. The Antioch mint, renamed Theoupolis after the earthquake of 528, continued to produce small bronze denominations like this decanummium to serve everyday commerce in the eastern provinces, reflecting both the practical needs of the local economy and the broader challenges of sustaining imperial stability in a turbulent era.
