Note: Trajan was a Roman emperor who ruled from AD 98 to 117. He is often remembered as one of the “Five Good Emperors” and is celebrated for his military conquests, particularly in Dacia, and for his extensive public building programs. Trajan’s reign is considered a high point in the Roman Empire, with his policies and military successes contributing to the empire reaching its greatest territorial extent. His title “Optimus Princeps” (Best Ruler) reflects the high regard in which he was held by the Senate and people of Rome.Ā  The obverse features a laureate head of Trajan facing right, with slight drapery on his left shoulder. The laurel wreath symbolizes his victory and divine favor, while the drapery adds a touch of elegance and authority to his image. The reverse shows Felicitas, the personification of happiness and prosperity, standing front with her head turned to the left. She holds a caduceus in her right hand and a cornucopia in her left. The caduceus, a staff associated with the god Mercury, symbolizes commerce and peace, while the cornucopia represents abundance and plenty. Together, these symbols convey the message of a prosperous and harmonious reign under Trajan’s rule.
