Note: Aelia Flaccilla was the wife of Emperor Theodosius I and the empress consort of the Roman Empire. She held the title of Augusta and was known for her role in the imperial family during the late 4th century AD. During the late 4th century, the Roman Empire was undergoing significant transformations, including the rise of Christianity as a dominant force. Aelia Flaccilla’s coin reflects this period of transition, highlighting her role as empress and the empire’s alignment with Christian values. The obverse features a draped bust of Aelia Flaccilla facing right. She is adorned with an elaborate headdress, a necklace, and a mantle, which highlight her imperial status and the high fashion of the late Roman court. The detailed depiction of her attire underscores her position and prominence in the imperial hierarchy.Ā  The reverse depicts Victory seated to the right, inscribing the Chi-Rho symbol on a shield resting on a column. The Chi-Rho symbol, an early Christian monogram formed by combining the letters “XP” (for Christ), signifies divine protection and favor. The column represents stability and endurance. This imagery reflects the promotion of Christian symbols and the idea of divine blessing on the empire’s stability.
