Note: Constantine I, also known as Constantine the Great, was a Roman Emperor who ruled from AD 306 to 337. He is renowned for being the first Roman emperor to convert to Christianity and for founding the city of Constantinople, which would later become the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire. Commemorative coins like this one played a role in reinforcing the emperor’s messages and celebrating the heritage of Rome.Ā  The obverse features a helmeted bust of Roma, the personification of the city of Rome, facing left. Roma is depicted wearing an imperial mantle, symbolizing the city’s connection to imperial power and its foundational significance to the Roman Empire. The reverse shows a she-wolf standing left, suckling the legendary twins Romulus and Remus. Above the she-wolf are two stars. The she-wolf and twins imagery refers to the mythological founding of Rome, where the she-wolf nurtured the twins who would go on to establish the city. The stars may symbolize divine favor or celestial guardianship.
