Note: Constantine II, also known as Flavius Claudius Constantinus, was a Roman emperor who ruled as Caesar from AD 316 to 337. He was one of the sons of Constantine the Great and was appointed as Caesar in the Tetrarchic system, which aimed to stabilize and divide the vast Roman Empire among multiple rulers. The Nummus of Constantine II from Nicomedia is a significant artifact from the early 4th century Roman Empire. The obverse, with its laureate and cuirassed bust, highlights Constantine II’s imperial authority and military leadership. The reverse’s depiction of soldiers and standards celebrates the strength and unity of the Roman army. This coin not only facilitated economic transactions but also served as a medium for imperial propaganda, reinforcing the emperor’s image as a strong and capable leader aligned with the military’s glory.
