Note: This follis belongs to the joint reign of Constantine X Doukas and his wife Eudokia Makrembolitissa. Constantine X, founder of the Doukid dynasty, came to power after the abdication of Isaac I Komnenos and is often remembered for weakening the military while favoring the bureaucracy and church. His reign witnessed growing external threats from the Seljuk Turks and Normans, setting the stage for later Byzantine decline, yet Constantinople itself remained a flourishing intellectual and religious hub. Coins of this period reflect the authority of the Doukai while continuing the empire’s tradition of strong Christian symbolism on its currency.
