Note: Delmatius was a member of the Constantinian dynasty, serving as Caesar from 335 to 337 AD. He was the nephew of Constantine the Great and was appointed Caesar to help manage the vast territories of the Roman Empire. His brief tenure ended abruptly with his assassination during the turmoil that followed Constantine’s death. The Follis of Delmatius is a notable artifact reflecting the political and military landscape of his brief tenure as Caesar. The obverse, featuring Delmatius’s laureate and cuirassed bust, emphasizes his noble status and military role. The reverse, depicting two soldiers with a standard, conveys themes of military glory and unity, reinforcing Delmatius’s image as a capable leader. This coin not only facilitated economic transactions but also served as a powerful tool of imperial propaganda, aimed at legitimizing Delmatius’s position and highlighting the crucial role of the military in maintaining the stability and security of the Roman Empire.
