Note: Domitian, the last emperor of the Flavian dynasty, ruled from AD 81 to 96. His reign was marked by efforts to restore the stability of the empire after the turmoil of the Year of the Four Emperors and the assassination of his brother, Titus. Domitian’s rule was characterized by authoritarian measures, extensive building projects, and the strengthening of the imperial office, but his reign was also marred by paranoia and persecution, which led to his eventual assassination and damnatio memoriae. The obverse features a laureate head of Domitian facing right. The laurel crown symbolizes his victory and authority, reflecting the emperor’s role as a military leader and his divine favor. The reverse depicts Minerva advancing to the right, holding a shield and brandishing a spear. Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom and warfare, represents strategic warfare and protection. Her presence on the coin symbolizes Domitian’s commitment to defending and guiding the empire, as well as his association with wisdom and military prowess.
