Note: The Buyids, also known as the Buwayhids or Buwaihids, were a Persian Shia dynasty that emerged in the 9th century in Iran and Iraq. They rose to prominence during the Abbasid Caliphate’s decline, establishing themselves as powerful rulers in the region. The Buyids originated from Daylam, a mountainous region in present-day Iran. They gained prominence through their military prowess and gradually expanded their influence, eventually seizing control of Baghdad in 945 AD. They claimed to be champions of the Abbasid Caliphate, but in reality, they exerted significant influence over the caliphs, effectively reducing them to mere figureheads.
