Note: Tigranes II, also known as Tigranes the Great, ruled as King of Armenia from 95 to 56 BC and is renowned for expanding the Armenian Kingdom to its greatest territorial extent. He established Armenia as a significant regional power through military conquests, including parts of present-day Turkey and Syria. Tigranes forged alliances with various states, including the Parthians, and was known for his confrontations with the Roman Republic. His reign is often marked by the establishment of the capital city Tigranocerta, a cultural hub that reflected Hellenistic influences. Despite his military successes, he ultimately faced defeat against the Roman general Pompey, leading to the decline of Armenian power.
