Note: Licinius II was a Roman Caesar who served from AD 317 to 324. He was the son of Licinius I and was elevated to the rank of Caesar at a young age. Licinius II’s tenure as Caesar was during a tumultuous period characterized by the rivalry between his father and Constantine the Great. His position as Caesar included administrative and military responsibilities in the provinces under his father’s control. The obverse, featuring Licinius II with military symbols, emphasizes his readiness and noble status as Caesar. The reverse, depicting Jupiter with symbols of protection and victory, reinforces themes of divine favor and military success. This coin not only facilitated economic transactions but also served as a means to project the legitimacy and authority of Licinius II during a period of significant imperial rivalry and unrest.
