Note: Severus Alexander was a Roman emperor who ruled from AD 222 to 235. His reign followed the tumultuous period of the Severan dynasty and included the provinces of the Roman Empire. This period was marked by efforts to maintain stability and fend off external threats, particularly from the Sassanian Empire and various Germanic tribes. The obverse features a laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Severus Alexander facing right. The laurel wreath signifies his status as a legitimate and honored ruler, the drapery signifies his civility, and the cuirass denotes his role as a military leader.Ā  The reverse shows Nemesis standing left, holding scales in her right hand and a rod in her left; a wheel is at her feet, and the Greek letter Ī” (Delta) is in the upper left field. Nemesis, the goddess of retribution, holding scales signifies justice and balance, while the rod and wheel symbolize her role in dispensing justice and fate. This coin served not only as a medium of economic exchange but also as a tool to communicate the values and ideals of Severus Alexander’s rule to the local populace.
