Note: Domitian was a Roman emperor who ruled from AD 81 to 96. His reign was marked by significant military and infrastructure accomplishments but also by autocratic rule and increasing paranoia, leading to a repressive regime. He was the last emperor of the Flavian dynasty, overseeing provinces including Pamphylia. The obverse, featuring the emperor’s laureate head, underscores his authority and divine favor. The reverse, depicting Nike with a pomegranate and spear, conveys themes of victory and abundance, reinforcing Domitian’s image as a capable and triumphant ruler. This coin not only facilitated economic transactions but also served as a powerful tool for communicating the emperor’s legitimacy and the city’s alignment with Roman values and ideals.
