Note:  Both Svoronos and Noeske attribute this issue, along with other types belonging to the Egyptianized series, to the mint of Alexandria, although there is uncertainty whether it was actually minted in Alexandria or Pelusium. However, these coins are never found in Egypt, leading to speculation that they may have been issued in Antioch instead. The purpose behind these coins was likely related to Antiochus IV’s intended invasion of Egypt. They may have been minted in Antioch with the intention of replacing the existing copper coinage in Egypt. This strategy could have been part of Antiochus’ broader plan to assert his authority over Egypt and promote his kingship as divinely ordained.
