Note: Antiochus VIII Epiphanes was a Seleucid ruler who reigned during a tumultuous period in the Hellenistic Near East. He ascended to the throne after the death of his father, Demetrius II Nicator. Antiochus VIII’s reign was marked by conflicts with rival claimants to the Seleucid throne and internal strife within the empire. He faced challenges from both foreign powers, such as the expanding Roman Republic, and internal factions vying for control. Antiochus VIII attempted to stabilize his rule by forming alliances and engaging in military campaigns, but his efforts were often undermined by internal divisions and external threats. His reign ended with his death in 96 BC, leaving behind a weakened Seleucid Empire struggling to maintain its grip on power.
