Note: Cleopatra Thea, the daughter of Ptolemy VI of Egypt and the wife of several Seleukid kings, including Antiochos VIII, was a key figure in the political landscape of the Hellenistic world. She played a crucial role in maintaining diplomatic alliances and stabilizing the Seleukid Empire, especially during the conflicts and power struggles that characterized the period. Antiochos VIII, known as Grypos (“hook-nosed”), was one of Cleopatra Thea’s husbands and ruled as co-regent with her. Their joint rule marked a period of relative stability for the Seleukid Empire. Owl were a common symbol associated with Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom and warfare. The presence of the owl on the coin may symbolize wisdom, intelligence, and protection.
