Note: Antiochus VII is best known for his military campaigns against the rival Hasmonean kingdom of Judaea, which ultimately led to his death in battle against the forces of the Hasmonean king, John Hyrcanus I, in 129 BC. Antiochus VII is remembered for his efforts to restore Seleucid power and expand the empire’s territory, as well as for his confrontations with the emerging powers in the region, such as the Hasmoneans and the Parthians.
