Note: Severus Alexander was a Roman emperor who ruled from AD 222 to 235, succeeding his cousin Elagabalus. His reign was characterized by attempts to restore stability and improve relations with the Senate and the army. However, his reign ended tragically when he was assassinated by his own soldiers. The Denarius was a silver coin commonly used in the Roman Empire for everyday transactions. The Denarius of Severus Alexander provides valuable insights into the political and economic policies of his reign. The reverse features the personification of Liberalitas standing to the left. Liberalitas holds an abacus (a counting tool symbolizing financial management) in her right hand and a cornucopia (horn of plenty symbolizing abundance) in her left hand. This imagery emphasizes Severus Alexander’s generosity and benevolence as emperor. Through its imagery and inscriptions, the coin reflects Severus Alexander’s efforts to promote stability and prosperity in the Roman Empire.
