Note: Seleucis and Pieria was a region located in northern Syria, part of the Seleucid Empire, which was one of the Hellenistic successor states that emerged after the death of Alexander the Great. The region was named after its founder, Seleucus I Nicator, one of Alexander’s generals. The lyre was a common symbol on coins of this region and period, especially in cities like Antioch, which had a strong Greek cultural influence. The depiction of the lyre on the coin suggests a focus on music, culture, or the arts in the city’s identity or perhaps a nod to Apollo’s influence.
