Note: Caracalla, born Lucius Septimius Bassianus and later known as Marcus Aurelius Antoninus, ruled as a Caesar from AD 196 to 198 before becoming Augustus and co-emperor with his father, Septimius Severus. His reign is noted for its military campaigns, the Constitutio Antoniniana granting Roman citizenship to all free men within the empire, and his infamous authoritarian rule. The denarius under discussion was minted during his time as Caesar.
