Note: Constantine I, also known as Constantine the Great, was a Roman emperor who reigned from 306 to 337 AD. During the reign of Constantine I, a series of commemorative coins were issued that celebrated various aspects of Roman history and mythology. These coins often featured symbolic representations that reinforced the prestige and continuity of the Roman Empire.Ā  He is renowned for several significant contributions to Roman history, including his conversion to Christianity, the Edict of Milan in 313 AD which granted religious tolerance throughout the empire, and the founding of Constantinople as a new imperial capital in 330 AD. The follis under Constantine I exemplifies the use of coinage for propaganda purposes and reflects the political and cultural landscape of the Roman Empire during his reign. These coins not only served economic functions but also acted as powerful tools of imperial ideology, reinforcing Constantine’s authority and the values he sought to promote throughout the empire. (The reverse depicts the iconic image of the she-wolf (lupa Capitolina) standing left, suckling the twins Romulus and Remus. According to Roman mythology, Romulus and Remus were the legendary founders of Rome, nurtured by a she-wolf after being abandoned)
