Note: Constantine X Ducas ascended to the throne during a period of military and political challenges for the Byzantine Empire. His reign saw numerous external threats, particularly from the Seljuk Turks. The coin reflects the religious and political ideology of the time, emphasizing the divine legitimacy of the emperor and empress through the imagery of Christ and the labarum. This follis not only served as currency but also as a medium for propagating the emperor’s authority and the sanctity of his rule. The depiction of Christ Emmanuel underscores the Byzantine belief in the divine right of the emperor, while the presence of both Constantine and Eudocia on the reverse signifies the stability and continuity of the ruling dynasty. This coin exemplifies the blend of religious imagery and imperial propaganda characteristic of Byzantine coinage.
