Note: Gallienus ruled as Roman Emperor from AD 253 to 268, initially co-ruling with his father Valerian until the latter’s capture by the Persians in AD 260. Gallienus then ruled alone during a period marked by external invasions, internal rebellions, and economic challenges. Despite these difficulties, his reign is noted for significant military and administrative reforms aimed at stabilizing the empire. The imagery and inscriptions on this Antoninianus emphasize the themes of divine favor, control over fate, and prosperity. By invoking Fortuna Redux, Gallienus associates his reign with the protection and beneficence of the goddess, reassuring his subjects of the stability and good fortune of the empire under his rule.
