Note: Gallienus was a Roman Emperor who ruled from 253 to 268 AD. He co-ruled with his father Valerian until the latter’s capture by the Persians in 260 AD. Gallienus’s reign was marked by significant internal turmoil, external invasions, and usurpations, often referred to as part of the Crisis of the Third Century. Despite these challenges, Gallienus implemented various military and administrative reforms to stabilize the empire.Ā  The obverse features a radiate and cuirassed bust of Gallienus facing right. The radiate crown symbolizes his divine favor and association with the sun god Sol, while the cuirass highlights his role as a military leader. The reverse shows Diana (often associated with Luna in Roman mythology) advancing to the right, holding a lighted torch with both hands. The torch symbolizes guidance and enlightenment.
