Note: Maximian was a Roman emperor who ruled during the late third century as part of the Tetrarchy, a system of joint rule established by Diocletian. Appointed as Caesar in AD 285 and later as Augustus, Maximian’s rule covered the western provinces of the Roman Empire. His reign was marked by military campaigns to defend and secure the empire’s borders and by efforts to stabilize the internal administration. The obverse, featuring a detailed bust of Maximian, underscores his imperial authority and divine favor. The reverse, depicting the emperor receiving Victory from Jupiter, conveys themes of military success and divine endorsement. This coin highlights Maximian’s efforts to present himself as a capable and legitimate ruler, essential for maintaining stability during a period of significant challenges.
