Note: The co-regency of the ambitious Nabataean minister Syllaeus and his eventual successor Aretas IV was marked by a power struggle that extended into their fourth year, around 6 BC. Initially, coins were likely issued with a more neutral design, featuring the portrait of their predecessor, Obodas III, on many of them. However, towards the end of their joint rule, the depiction of Aretas himself began to appear on the coinage, signaling his forthcoming sole rulership of Nabataea. Since this coin bears the likeness of Aretas, it is probably from the later period of their joint reign.
