Note: Tryphon took the young son of Alexander I under his protection, proclaiming him Antiochus VI. Following Tryphon’s expulsion of Demetrius from Antioch, likely in the summer of 143 B.C., Antiochus VI secured the loyalty of most of the Seleucid territory, including Judaea. Two years later, Antiochus IV died, probably as a result of an assassination orchestrated by Tryphon, who then seized the throne for himself.
